Opole is not just the capital of Polish song, it is a city that combines culture, education, tourism and business. It is small, yet enchanting, with numerous canals and green spaces adding to its charm.
While almost all of Opole is situated on the mainland, on either side of the river Oder, it also includes two islands, Pasieka and Bolko with wonderful walking areas, playgrounds hidden in the park, a lovely pond and a zoo. The city has numerous hotels and restaurants, huge Piast tower , historic churches and monasteries (fragments from 1280). During the warm month sees popular cafes open for the season.
There is usually wonderful weather in Poland between May and October.
In spring, temperatures vary from 0 to 16°C (32-60,8°F). In May temperatures rise to 18-20°C (64,4-68°F) and in summer they can jump to as high as 30°C (86°F). At the end of September comes the Golden Polish Autumn. The temperature drops to around 10°C (50°F). The weather is still nice with the occasional rain up until November. Then finally in winter, days are shorter and temperatures fall below 0°C (32°F).

Poland has the health care system based on the national health insurance. If you have a national health insurance in your country you are most likely covered by your medical treatment.
Please keep in mind that if you want to use the health insurance you need to have the EHIC
European Health Insurance Card from your country of origin, properly confirmed. Without such document, you will be obligated to cover the cost of your treatment.
Ambulance should be summoned in case of an accident or the victim should be taken to the nearest hospital. Ailing visitors may seek aid in the nearest outpatient clinic. Foreign visitors without medical insurance will have to pay a standard fee for medical services. For prescription drugs, minor medications, and advice on treatment of minor ailments, go to a pharmacy (apteka). These are generally open from 08.00 to 20.00. The Poland's currency is zloty. 1 zloty equals 100 groszy. In circulation there are 1-, 2-, 5-, 10-, 20-, and 50 groszy coins as well as 1-, 2-, and 5 zloty coins. The bank notes have 10, 20, 50, 100, and 200 zloty nominal.
Many hotels, restaurants and services already accept the European currency. Nevertheless, to avoid unpleasant surprises, you should keep a few gold ones in your pocket.
It is advisable to open a bank account in Poland. Just bring your passport or ID to any bank - the opening an account is free of charge. You will receive a cash card and free access to your account via Internet. However, some services may be charged (e.g. international money transfer). There are many banks that provide bank accounts for international students. Make sure what services are included, what charges are involved and choose the bank which suits your needs.

Hostels in Opole: 45-50zł per person.

All rooms are renovated and furnished, with shared kitchen and bathroom on each floor.

Holidays and days off
There are no classes during Christmas. There is a short one-week break between the winter and summer semesters. The summer holidays last 3 months. The following public holidays are celebrated in Poland annually. On these days banks, offices and most shops are closed.
